At present it is not possible for the vast majority of people to train to become a registered healthcare professional within the UK without taking on tens of thousands of pounds in student debt. This debt is paid back at high interest and takes a proportion of salary away from staff who are already pressed financially due to low wages, professional registration fees and hospital car parking. As recognition of public service these training fees should be written off after 5 years service.
