Increase spending on defence in the UK

The Government needs to focus spending directly to maintaining a minimum threshold of essential resources required to sustain a continuous defence if the world enters a new time of conflict such as an escalation of current hostilities. We must start now instead of just promising to increase it later

This petition was rejected on 13th Apr 2026 for not petitioning for a specific action

The Petition Committee commented:
The Government has already announced increases in spending on defence. We are therefore not clear what action you are seeking which is different to what is already taking place. You could start a new petition setting out in what way you would like the Government's plans to be different.

There is a majority Government in House of Commons so they have full ability to create the budget as they want. With this ability they should be aiming to help the UK as a whole to the greatest extent possible however as such an inability to protect ourselves in times of conflict means they failed.
