People serving Extended Determinate Sentences can complete rehabilitation programmes, education and their sentence plans while maintaining good behaviour, yet still have no opportunity for earlier release. We believe the justice system should recognise genuine reform. Allowing sentence reductions or earlier review for those who demonstrate sustained rehabilitation could encourage positive behaviour, support reintegration into society and maintain public safety through proper risk assessment.
