Animal Products and Food: Import Controls
Asked by: Steven Bonnar (Scottish National Party - Coatbridge, Chryston and Bellshill) Wednesday 1st May 2024 Question to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs: To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, what assessment he has made of the impact of potential delays to new border checks on medium risk imports of food and animal products from the European Union on UK businesses. Answered by Mark Spencer - Minister of State (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) The introduction of new border controls on 30 April is not being delayed. Checks on medium and high-risk goods posing the greatest biosecurity risk are being prioritised as we build up to full check rates and high levels of compliance. Taking a pragmatic approach to introducing our new border checks minimises disruption, protects our biosecurity and benefits everyone – especially traders. |
