The Humble Petition of the citizens of the UK.
Declares that the Petitioners are concerned about proposed changes to the Medicines Act that may restrict access to homeopathic medicine.
Wherefore your Petitioners request that the House of Commons urges the Government to ensure that any changes to the Medicine Act allow greater freedom to homeopathic practitioners to dispense remedies.
And your Petitioners, as in duty bound, will ever pray, &c.—[Presented by Jim Shannon, Official Report, 17 July 2012; Vol. 548, c. 956.]
[P001112]
Observations from the Secretary of State for Health:
The Medicines Act 1968 and the some 200 statutory instruments which made up the fragmented UK medicines legislation have been consolidated into one set of regulations; the Human Medicines Regulations 2012. These came into force on 14 August 2012. The consolidation exercise did not change the legislative provisions governing the sale and supply of homeopathic medicines.
Development of provisions to allow homeopathic practitioners to dispense remedies would need detailed consideration of the policy and legal implications of any reforms to the existing pharmacy provisions. It would also require a full public consultation.
Such a change would represent a very significant move away from the current position. The proposals could not be taken forward without detailed and sustained assessment and consideration and could not be introduced simply as an amendment to the regulations.

The Petition of users of McArdles Pharmacy, Brierley Hill and others,
Declares that the Petitioners are concerned about proposals to allow three further pharmacies to open in Brierley Hill town centre that will each trade for more than 100 hours per week, as the Petitioners believe that adequate pharmaceutical services are already provided by the network of three well established pharmacies and that these unnecessary and undesirable new pharmacies will jeopardise the existing businesses that have provided personal care to customers for more than 40 years.
The Petitioners therefore request that the House of Commons urges the Government to ask Dudley Primary Care Trust to reject any application for the opening of further pharmacies in Brierly Hill town centre.
And the Petitioners remain, etc.—[Presented by Chris Kelly, Official Report, 16 July 2012; Vol. 548, c. 812.]
[P001111]
Observations from the Secretary of State for Health:
The proposals, which are the subject of this petition, are for local consideration. The NHS (Pharmaceutical Services) Regulations allow primary care trusts to take local representations into consideration before granting applications, subject to appeal.

The Humble Petition of residents of Rushden, Higham Ferrers, East Northamptonshire, and surrounding areas
Sheweth,
That the proposed closure of Rushden Ambulance station will detrimentally affect the 97,500 people that live in the local area, reducing response time and providing an inferior service.
Wherefore your Petitioners pray that your Honourable House requests the Secretary of State for Health to urge the Northamptonshire County Council, the District Council of East Northamptonshire and East Midlands Ambulance Service to work together to find a solution that will allow the Rushden Ambulance station to remain open.
And your Petitioners, as in duty bound, will ever pray, &c.—[Presented by Mr Peter Bone, Official Report, 16 July 2012; Vol. 548, c. 812.]
[P001110]
Observations from the Secretary of State for Health:
The issue referred to is to be subject to a local consultation exercise. I will ask NHS Midlands & East to ensure the views of the petitioners are fully taken into account.
