The Petition of residents of the UK,
Declares that Humberstone Heights Golf Course is a popular leisure facility in Leicester and further that the Petitioners believe that the planned closure of the Golf Course will have a detrimental impact on the local community.
The Petitioners therefore request that the House of Commons urges the Government to encourage Leicester City Council to reconsider their decision to close Humberstone Heights Gold Course, which is an important community facility.
And the Petitioners remain, etc.—[Presented by Keith Vaz, Official Report, 9 April 2014; Vol. 578, c. 384.]

Observations from the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government:
The Government will not interfere in this issue as this is a matter for local discretion and should be based on local needs. Local councils have to play their part in making savings to return public spending to sustainable levels and the Government are shifting power from central Government back to local areas.
The Government are committed to supporting communities that want to take over facilities to run themselves. We have put in place a £19 million support programme to help communities to take on the ownership and management of assets that are important to them. The support includes a free advice service and grant funding (http://mycommunityrights.org.uk/ or call 0300 020 1864).
