.@Ayjchan: "Covid has gotten to this bizarre situation where if it comes from a market, somehow the Democrats win, or if it comes from a lab, the Republicans win. The truth of the matter is if we don't find the origin, we all lose together." https://t.co/HL1FKc74LF

@whippletom I disagree. There are 200 kinds of virus that cause common colds - all are mild. Mode of transmission is key. Respiratory viruses - unlike insect borne, water borne ones -- do benefit from mildness, as Ewald argued. Lockdowns may have partly prevented that happening.
@whippletom I saw several versions of this argument (NY Times): "Will Covid-19 become milder?...most likely yes, but it may not have anything to do with the virus evolving to induce milder disease...combination of prior infections and vaccinations are building immunity in the population"
@whippletom In your excellent analysis today, you write: "If you want gills, you can’t breathe in air." Tell that to a bichir.. btw, on mildness, why did so many medics argue -- contra evo biology -- that mildness could only be a feature of human immunity, not the virus itself?
