Question

To ask the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, what steps her Department is taking to help increase levels of low-cost broadband options in Bexleyheath and Crayford.

The government is committed to ensuring that affordable broadband is available across the UK. More than 30 social tariffs are now available to 99% of UK households, with packages starting from £12.50 a month. Through the Telecoms Consumer Charter, industry has committed to improving awareness of social tariffs and making them more accessible

In addition, as set out in the Statement of Strategic Priorities to Ofcom, the government believes effective competition supports investment, innovation and lower prices for consumers. As of January 2026, 77% of residential premises across the UK had access to more than one network and 61% had access to more than one gigabit-capable network.

Question to the Department for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade:

To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade, what discussions his Department has had with Royal Mail on postal services in Bexleyheath and Crayford constituency.

Answered by Kate Dearden - Minister of State (Department for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade)

  • Royal Mail has told my department that it is delivering to the vast majority of addresses in line with its specifications.
  • Where customers are not receiving the service they are entitled to expect, that is unacceptable and must be urgently addressed.
  • While the latest Q1 2026-27 results show some improvement in delivery performance, this is only a first step. Performance remains below the required standards and the pace of improvement must increase. I will continue to press the company to deliver the reliable service that constituents expect and deserve.
