Asked by: Lauren Sullivan (Labour - Gravesham)

Question to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government:

To ask the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, whether her Department provides guidance to local authorities and leaseholders on the acquisition of difficult-to-sell assisted living properties.

Answered by Matthew Pennycook - Minister of State (Housing, Communities and Local Government)

The government recognises that leasehold retirement properties frequently experience poor resale values, and we appreciate the severe financial and emotional pressures for older owners and their families.

We agree with the conclusion of the Older People’s Housing Taskforce that we must deepen our understanding of what drives strong resale performance – and why some models retain or increase value over time while others do not.
