@PutneyPolitics @blisswords Ministers already control the purse strings & annual mandate so they have always been responsible, I’m v wary of them having day to day powers to direct. Their record in areas like public health (where they retained those powers) has been dire...
The NHS bill needs to focus on what NHS needs: to be able to ditch the endless and wasteful contracting rounds and to be able to work more closely across health and social care. The fear is that it will also sneak in a political power grab
The NHS had already widely consulted on what changes were needed to the Health and Social Care Act, including scrutiny by @CommonsHealth https://t.co/ncbdSPrzD9 No one wanted to give ministers back the power to direct and meddle
The wilful destruction of our fishing communities & exporters is shameful. Vote Leave now in Govt knew this would happen but shouted down & ridiculed those who tried to warn communities they would be left carrying these costs. PM must accept responsibility & compensate businesses https://t.co/jtKVS9bSba
The success of the vaccine roll out largely thanks to the local NHS and public health systems managing it. Hopefully govt has finally learned lessons from the failures of outsourcing to private sector companies with little or no experience of public health over the pandemic https://t.co/6sDM0HlfIr
@SorchaHolloway Good luck Sorcha
What a terrible loss. Thank you Dr Osman for your dedicated work for patients, and for all your kindness and inspiration to junior doctors https://t.co/Pu1CDt7I4G
I’ve loved returning to the #NHS & well worth checking this out if you’d like to help with the Covid19 response & beyond https://t.co/seNAb4z1Ql
There was nothing inevitable about the terrible scale of the #Covid_19 tragedy and widening inequality, just a shocking failure of govt to learn from mistakes https://t.co/4zAP33oJe3
@Tamertonguy A point I also make in my Independent piece. There needs to be a far greater focus on the health inequality being further worsened by Covid-19
