I thank the hon. Member for asking that question, on behalf of his constituents, about the impact on his local high street. I hope he is reassured about our commitment to putting pressure on the business to ensure that it understands its responsibility to its employees in his constituency and others that are represented here today. It is right for us to do that, because we too have a responsibility and we take responsibility, as well as rights, extremely seriously, as the ownership should. The hon. Member will know of our meetings this week, and our continued engagement will make that very clear.

High streets such as Dudley’s face pressures from online shopping and rising costs. Too many units have stood empty for years, weakening footfall and confidence, and the potential loss of Poundland and 15 jobs in my constituency could blow another hole in the high street. However, this is not just about my 15 employees; a ripple effect of the potential closure could cause problems in the supply chain as well. Has the Minister assessed the full impact of the closures across Poundland, across the country and across the supply chain in order to hold Gordon Brothers to account?

I share my hon. Friend’s concern for her constituents and those across the country. This is a very worrying time for them. We are therefore taking a responsible approach, engaging with Poundland, Gordon Brothers and USDAW to ensure that jobs are protected as much as they possibly can be, to understand the situation and demand to know what is happening so we can make that assessment, and to ensure that the company is acting in the best interests of its loyal UK staff and workforce. I thank my hon. Friend for sharing those reflections today.
