Regulate the environmental impact of food delivery and takeaway business

We call on the UK Government to make mandatory the use of biodegradable/compostable containers and to introduce a container deposit return scheme from 2021.

According to a recent research of the Manchester University none of the three most widely used type of containers (aluminium, polypropylene and extruded polystyrene) is a sustainable solution, resulting in a negative impact on pollution, littering and marine ecosystems [1].
Current UK infrastructure should also be improved to safely and appropriately manage the full lifecycle of biodegradable / compostable materials.
