It really is time for government to recognize the importance of the emergency services and to remunerate them fairly. Bankers and footballers do not save lives. Also, £100 billion on a weapons system that (in reality) could never, ever be used is just a waste of money. The world is going to be a very different place after Covid-19. The government will need to stay with the new zeitgeist. Recognizing our emergency services will be a good start.
