Reimburse international NHS workers the cost of the NHS surcharge this year.

Non-EU NHS workers have to pay the NHS surcharge when they come to work in the UK. As a recognition of the contribution that has been made by this international workforce to the citizens of the UK, the Government should refund the NHS surcharge paid this year.

There is a known shortage of doctors and nurses in the UK. Recruiting for non-EU countries is critical to enable the NHS to function. At a time when many could return to support their own families and communities, they choose to remain in the UK out of professional commitment to their colleagues and to the UK community. We should acknowledge their contribution by making a gesture by removing the NHS surcharge this year.
