Not all deaf people can read subtitles or lip read, and therefore can be excluded by broadcasts that do not include British Sign Language (BSL). This is a particular issue during the pandemic since we are all under lockdown and are particularly reliant on broadcast news.

The Government should make signing compulsory for all news channels. This should help deaf people access the news and feel less isolated.
