An MP's basic salary is approximately £82,000pa. Payments from outside agencies gives the appearance and opportunity for corrupt practice. Politics must be clean and seen to be clean. Additional money and gifts should not be accepted. £82,000 is a very good salary that most people would like and be able to live on. If £82,000 is deemed too little by some, they can always resign and find work in the private sector.
