The Ministry of Justice should reopen the process for selling Reading prison site to new or improved bids (such as those made possible by public interest and donations for community-led bids), which can be considered against existing bids.

The Government should acknowledge the public interest in retention of a cultural landmark, which could provide a transformative and sustainable arts space for the town, and which we believe would respect environmental, social and governance criteria, by reopening bids for the sale of Reading jail.
