Trail hunts involve people on foot or horseback following a scent along a pre-determined route with hounds or beagles, but in practice wild animals including foxes are sometimes chased and killed during these hunts. Trail hunts should no longer be permitted on Ministry of Defence land, to ensure that wild animals, as well as the horses and dogs used for these hunts, do not suffer.
