Hong Kong: Rule of Law

Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, what reports he has received on the erosion of the rule of law in Hong Kong and the potential effect of that on British businesses; and if he will make a statement.

​The British Government believes that the rule of law and independence of the judiciary is the foundation on which Hong Kong's success and prosperity is built. Despite challenges, Hong Kong's commitment to the rule of law remains strong and the judiciary is held in high esteem. Confidence in rule of law is essential for 'One Country, Two Systems' and for Hong Kong's reputation as a global centre for business
