Question to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government:
To ask the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, how many empty properties have seen a increase in Council Tax of (a) 200%, (b) 300%, and (c) 400% since the Council Tax (Prescribed Classes of Dwellings and Consequential Amendments) Regulations 2024 came into force, broken down by (i) sheltered accommodation and (ii) older person accommodation where there is an age limit for living in the accommodation.
Local authorities are responsible for the administration of council tax in accordance with relevant legislation and have discretion to decide whether to apply council tax premiums. The charging of premiums on particular types of accommodation is a local matter.
