Central government does not commission HIV, sexual health or prevention services directly. NHS England is funding the three year HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) Impact trial which will provide NHS England and local authority commissioners with data to inform the future commissioning of a clinically and cost effective PrEP programme. The trial began in October 2017 and full results will be available in early 2021. NHS England and local authority commissioners are already working together to use the provisional information generated by the trial to begin work to prepare for future commissioning of PrEP.
