Question to the Northern Ireland Office:

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, what assessment has been made of recent trends in paramilitary activity.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland and security partners monitor the activity and assess the threat, risk and harm from paramilitaries in order to inform their operational response. Additionally, the Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre constantly reviews the threat level from Northern Ireland Related Terrorism (NIRT), with formal reviews twice a year.

Despite recent security incidents in Dunmurry and Lurgan, the threat level from NIRT in Northern Ireland has remained SUBSTANTIAL since the reduction in March 2024.
