Question to the Home Office:
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, what guidance her Department issues on the right to anonymity of arrested individuals before charge.
The Authorised Professional Practice Guidance on media relations, issued by the College of Policing, already makes clear that the police will not name those arrested or suspected of a crime, save in exceptional circumstances where there is a legitimate policing purpose to do so.
There are currently no plans to bring forward any legislative changes regarding pre-charge anonymity.
