Question to the Department for Education:

To ask the Secretary of State for Education, what assessment she has made of the potential merits of introducing a National Wellbeing Measurement.

The government recognises the importance of monitoring and understanding the wellbeing of children and young people and the factors that influence it. The department gathers, analyses and publishes data on pupil wellbeing, experiences and outcomes through existing surveys and administrative datasets. This includes our first annual publication on pupil experiences in schools, which can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/pupil-experiences-in-school-academic-year-2024-to-2025.

The department will continue to monitor the evidence on children and young people's wellbeing and consider how best to improve understanding of the factors that support positive outcomes. We will also publish a Pupil Engagement Framework, which will support schools to understand and measure factors such as belonging, inclusion, relationships, safety and agency, which are closely linked to attendance, attainment and wellbeing.
