Question to the Department for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade:

To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade, what assessment he has made of the potential impact of the strategy for replacing animals in science on the UK’s international competitiveness in pharmaceutical research and development.

The Government has assessed that the Replacing Animals in Science strategy will strengthen the UK’s international competitiveness in pharmaceutical research and development by supporting the development, validation and uptake of more human-relevant methods. Building on the UK’s strengths in life sciences research and pharmaceutical innovation, the strategy will help the UK capitalise on the growing market for alternative methods and the scientific and economic advantages these approaches can offer for product development and testing.
