Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what assessment she has made of the potential impact of earlier diagnosis and preventative technologies, including continuous glucose monitoring, on reducing the economic impact of Type 2 diabetes.

The eligibility criteria for continuous glucose monitoring amongst type 2 diabetics are set in guidance published by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence. This guidance is available at the following link:

No assessment has been made, as continuous glucose monitoring devices have not been validated for the use of diagnosis of type 2 diabetes.

The Healthier You NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme, is highly effective in cutting the risk of developing type 2 diabetes by 37% for people completing the programme compared to those who do not attend.

Outcomes for the Type 2 Diabetes Path to Remission Programme demonstrates that 32% of programme completers achieved remission with an average weight loss of almost 16 kilograms.
