The Department does not hold information on total funding provided specifically to UK companies developing graphene photonics and terahertz devices supporting high-bandwidth, narrow-beam links. However, as announced in the Industrial Strategy, Government is funding the National Materials Innovation Programme, with the aim to drive translation and adoption of materials across key industrial sectors, building on previous support for R&D through the Graphene Engineering Innovation Centre (GEIC) and the Henry Royce Institute.

The Government also supports the UK's photonics capabilities through targeted interventions that support individual sector needs, fostering innovation and growth across emerging technology areas.
