Question to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government:
To ask the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, pursuant to the answer of 8 September 2026, to Question 20199, on Political Parties: Finance, whether her department has had any discussions with representatives of the House of Commons (a) on alignment of the House Commons Code of Conduct with the new political finance regime for MPs in the Representation of the People Bill and (b) to avoid creating dual reporting requirements.
The changes to the political finance regime in the Representation of the People Bill concern electoral law and do not alter the House of Commons Code of Conduct or the rules on the registration and declaration of Members’ interests, which are matters for the House.
The Government recognises the importance of ensuring that the political finance regime operates coherently alongside the House’s rules and does not create unnecessary duplication. The Department will engage with the relevant House authorities and the Electoral Commission as implementation arrangements and statutory guidance are developed.
