The Government recognises that women experiencing rough sleeping are often less visible and may be at greater risk of violence, abuse and exploitation.

Evidence from a range of sources, including the department’s rough sleeping statistics and the Women’s Rough Sleeping Census, builds a broader understanding of the challenges faced by women. This is why we encourage all local authorities to carry out a women’s census in their areas.

We continue to work closely with local authorities and specialist organisations to improve outcomes for women experiencing homelessness and rough sleeping, supported by over £4 million in homelessness and rough sleeping services from 2026/27 to 2028/29.
