Question to the HM Treasury:

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer, what discussions did he have with relevant stakeholders regarding the introduction of a tourist tax prior to the decision to introduce such taxes.

At Budget 2025, the Government announced an intention to empower local leaders to introduce a visitor levy and published a consultation so that the public, businesses, and local government could shape the design. On 10 September, the Government published a response to the consultation which provides more detail on the policy design, drawing on feedback from the accommodation sector, local government, and members of the public.
