Question to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs:

To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, how many instances of serious non-compliance were identified by the Environment Agency at permitted waste sites in (a) 2023, (b) 2024 and (c) 2025, and in each of those years, what proportion of those instances had (i) the cause of the non-compliance identified and scored, (ii) the correct categorisation and reasonably foreseeable impact recorded, and (iii) appropriate remedial actions set.

Serious non-compliance is classified as a category 1 or 2 permit breach. Waste sites are in the Biowaste Treatment, Landfill and Waste Treatment sectors. All recorded non-compliances are scored and a cause identified, with remedial actions applied.
