The government is ensuring that the UK is ready for both the challenges and opportunities that AI will bring. We have taken important steps to ensure that many AI systems are already regulated at the point of use by our existing regulators. We are also examining how the Cyber Security and Resilience Bill can respond to emerging AI risks to essential services, including through developing a voluntary reporting framework for near-miss incidents. But we should not assume that the existing framework will always be sufficient as AI capabilities develop. The safety of the British public is a non-negotiable priority. Where new protections are needed, we will act, legislating wherever necessary.
