Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:
To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, how many times female prisoners have been provided with an emergency contraceptive pill in the past two years.
Although NHS England does not hold this information either nationally or regionally, access to emergency oral hormonal contraception is available at all female prisons; and healthcare professionals should provide information and advice about the full range of contraceptive methods and offer to prescribe a contraceptive substance or appliance prior to discharge.
All prison healthcare has access to pharmacy and dispensing services, as this forms part of the service specification and is a contractual requirement. All healthcare services including access to emergency oral contraception are funded by NHS England.
