Question to the HM Treasury:
To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer, what assessment he has made of the potential impact of planned increases in fuel duty in 2027 on (a) food price inflation and (b) household living costs.
The Government recognises the pressures faced by drivers and other fuel users from price increases from the conflict in the Middle East.
In total, the decisions taken since the 2024 general election to freeze Fuel Duty saves motorists 11p per litre or £120 per year for the average car, compared to plans inherited from the previous parliament.
Recognising the importance of the haulage sector, the government also announced a 12-month vehicle excise duty (VED) holiday for the majority of heavy goods vehicles, with hauliers also benefiting from the extension of the 5p fuel duty cut.
