Question to the HM Treasury:
To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer, whether he has made an assessment of the potential merits of cancelling the planned fuel duty increases in January, March and April 2027.
The Government recognises the pressures faced by drivers and other fuel users from price increases from the conflict in the Middle East.
In total, the decisions taken since the 2024 general election to freeze Fuel Duty saves motorists 11p per litre or £120 per year for the average car, compared to plans inherited from the previous parliament.
Recognising the importance of the haulage sector, the government also announced a 12-month vehicle excise duty (VED) holiday for the majority of heavy goods vehicles, with hauliers also benefiting from the extension of the 5p fuel duty cut.
