Question to the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport:

To ask the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, what steps are being taken to ensure that all employers are aware that they cannot monitor employees' on-line services accounts covertly unless it is part of a lawful investigation in England and Wales.

The Information Commissioner is the UK's independent authority responsible for administering and enforcing information rights and provides guidance and advice to individuals and organisations on, among other things, the protection of individual's data. The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) has produced guidance for employers on staff monitoring. This guidance can be found at:
