Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:
To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, what discussions he has had with his US counterpart on the future of the British Indian Ocean Territory.
Diego Garcia is a vital strategic military asset for the UK and US, which has protected our shared security for nearly 60 years.
Maintaining its long-term operation has been the driver of UK negotiations since 2022.
We need a diplomatic agreement with Mauritius - supported by the US - that protects UK national security and reflects the interests of all sides.
We continue to work closely on this, but I shall not provide a running commentary on talks.
This is about the long-term safety and security of the British people.
