Question to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs:

To ask His Majesty's Government what discussions, if any, they have had with the Welsh Government regarding future projections of the water requirements of English corporations who currently obtain some or all of their water from Wales.

Water companies in England and Wales have a statutory duty to provide a secure supply of water for customers, efficiently and economically and set out how they plan to continue to supply water to their customers through statutory Water Resources Management Plans (WRMPs).

As agreed in the Intergovernmental Protocol on Water Resources, Water Supply and Water Quality and with respect to WRMPs where there are cross border matters, WRMPs will be scrutinised by regulators on both sides of the border and decisions on WRMPs are made in consultation with the relevant administration.
