Question to the Department for Transport:

To ask His Majesty's Government what plans they have to make e-bike rental operators liable for accidents resulting from misuse.

The Government is empowering local leaders in England to regulate shared cycle schemes through licensing. Safety and accountability will be core considerations as we implement this.

We will be launching a public consultation in the coming months on the implementation of licensing which will include consideration of the right balance of responsibilities and accountability in shared cycle schemes.

Licensing will be implemented following public consultation through a combination of regulations and guidance.
