The government is aware of ongoing litigation being brought against AI developers for using copyrighted recordings to train their music generation models. Copying protected material in the UK will infringe copyright law unless it is licensed, or an exception to copyright applies.

It is important that rightsholders can effectively assert their rights. We are dedicated to protecting our world-leading creative industries, including the music industry, and ensuring they continue to thrive in the age of AI.
