Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:

To ask His Majesty's Government what is their assessment of the current state of relations between Greek and Turkish Cypriots; and whether they, together with international partners, have new proposals to help to broker confidence-building measures on trade and travel between the two parties, particularly in view of the forthcoming elections in both Greece and Türkiye.

We remain committed to supporting UN efforts to reach a just and lasting Cyprus settlement within the UN parameters based on the model of a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation with political equality and we engage all parties on this. Whilst there remain differences between the parties' positions, we believe that sufficient common ground to start formal negotiations can be found. Ultimately, it is for the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot leaders to decide on the details of a settlement and any interim confidence building measures. The UK, as a Guarantor Power, remains committed to supporting a return to Settlement negotiations.
