Written Question
Discrimination
Tuesday 20th January 2026

Asked by: Baroness Bakewell (Labour - Life peer)

Question to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government:

To ask His Majesty's Government what steps they are taking to address the increase in xenophobia in the politics and social discourse of the UK.

Answered by Baroness Taylor of Stevenage - Baroness in Waiting (HM Household) (Whip)

All forms of discrimination and hatred are completely unacceptable and have no place in our communities. The Government is committed to bridging divisions between communities and challenging hatred, and we continue to work closely with community groups, charities, and public sector partners to achieve this. MHCLG is also co-ordinating cross-Government efforts to consider a longer-term, more strategic approach to social cohesion - working in partnership with local government, communities and local stakeholders.
