Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:

To ask Her Majesty's Government whether they have any plans to enter into discussions with, and to offer assistance to, the government of South Africa concerning the water supply crisis in Cape Town.

​We have been in ongoing dialogue with the Western Cape provincial and Cape Town municipal governments on the current water scarcity issues they face. The International Trade Secretary discussed the situation with the Western Cape government in Cape Town on 18 September 2017. Exchanges with UK experts have since followed both in London and in Cape Town to explore how UK expertise could help address the short and long term water challenges.
