Crimes of Violence: Females
Tuesday 21st March 2017

Asked by: Richard Burgon (Labour - Leeds East)

Question to the Home Office:

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, with reference to paragraph 5.13 of the Spring Budget 2017, what estimate she has made of how much of £100 million funding for implementing the Government's Ending Violence Against Women and Girls Strategy will be allocated to (a) Leeds East constituency, (b) Leeds and (c) Yorkshire.

Answered by Sarah Newton

The Government's Violence against Women and Girls Strategy (VAWG) published in March 2016 committed increased funding of £80 million for VAWG services. A further £20 million was announced in the March 2017 Budget to support organisations that tackle domestic violence and abuse and work is ongoing to integrate this with the already announced funding.

We have provided approximately £2 million of central funding for VAWG services in Yorkshire which has supported refuge provision, Independent Domestic Violence Advisers, Independent Sexual Violence Advisers and Rape Support Centres.

We have also set out a clear blueprint for local action though our new National Statement of Expectations (NSE) and Commissioning Toolkit, which is available to local commissioning bodies and groups. Our move to support through the VAWG Service Transformation Fund will encourage better collaboration and new, joined-up approaches between local commissioners, and with specialist VAWG service providers. This will help promote better collaboration and joint leadership, encourage new approaches incorporating early intervention, and establish and embed the best ways to help victims, survivors and their families.

In addition, we will shortly be announcing successful bids in our three year £15 million VAWG Service Transformation Fund.

Written Question
West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service
Monday 23rd January 2017

Asked by: Richard Burgon (Labour - Leeds East)

Question to the Home Office:

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, what assessment she has made of the effect of funding changes on the effectiveness of the service provided by West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service since 2010.

Answered by Brandon Lewis

Fire and Rescue Authorities (FRAs) have delivered significant savings over the past five years. Fire-related fatality numbers and incidents can fluctuate between years, and despite a small increase in 2015/16, over the past 10 years there has been a 22 per cent decrease in the number of fire-related fatalities and a 52 per cent decrease in the total number of reported fires.

Since 2009/10 single-purpose fire and rescue authorities’ non-ringfenced reserves rose by 153% to £602 million. These resources should be targeted at achieving long-term efficiencies.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Authorities’ non-ringfenced reserves rose from £7.3m in 2009/10 to £29m in 2015/16.

Monday 11th April 2016

Asked by: Richard Burgon (Labour - Leeds East)

Question to the Home Office:

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, how many Tier 2 intra-company transfers for what roles or job descriptions were issued to UK companies in each of the last five years; and what salary each such transferee received.

Answered by James Brokenshire

Information on the number of Certificates of Sponsorship (CoS) that have been issued by Tier 2 (Intra Company Transfer) sponsors, broken down by the job titles of those they sought to employ and the salary each transferee was to receive, for each of the last five years, will be placed in the House Library. To break these figures down further into in and out of country applications, and whether the application was successful would require manual intervention that would incur disproportionate costs.
