Earlier I today I spoke to @Ady_Dayman for @BBCLeicester following the sad passing of Lord Lawson of Blaby. I was pleased to talk about some of my fond memories of Nigel and his lasting legacy as Member of Parliament for Blaby and as Chancellor of the Exchequer. https://t.co/bg7TqRiaQI
I have opened a Book of Condolence in my Blaby Constituency Office for any constituents who might wish to place a message of remembrance for the late Lord Lawson of Blaby. The Book of Condolence will be open in my office for the rest of this week. https://t.co/rxh9WS8Xum
Deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Lord Lawson, my predecessor but one as Member of Parliament for the then Blaby constituency and one of our most influential Chancellors. Like many I have fond memories of Nigel - my thoughts are with his family. https://t.co/mx2240LyY7
Awful to hear about this fatal collision in Blaby yesterday - my thoughts are with the poor man involved and his family. Lots of constituents have concerns about Hospital Lane and so I will be taking this up with the County Council to discuss possible safety improvements. https://t.co/nC87UG99D4
4/ The debacle whereby Pitchfork was released and recalled shows reform is needed and why public protection must be prioritised. With Pitchfork's hearing now a few weeks away, I will continue to oppose his release on behalf of the families of Lynda and Dawn and my constituents. https://t.co/JZRqWO7d80
3/ Very much welcome the reforms announced by the Justice Sec earlier this week to ensure that the parole system works better for victims and rightly prioritises public protection. Public confidence is shaken in the parole system and these reforms are severely needed.
2/ My recent meeting follows my question to the Prime Minister and a meeting with the Prisons Minister, so I want to reassure constituents that I am doing all I can to see that Pitchfork remains in prison where he belongs.
1/ I met with the Justice Secretary to discuss the case of the child-killer Colin Pitchfork ahead of his parole hearing next month. I was pleased to receive his assurances that the Gov't will be making the strongest case to oppose Pitchfork's release. https://t.co/ieChSmhptJ
Terrible to hear about this incident in Broughton Astley earlier today. My thoughts are with the young girl and her family at this most difficult time and I very much hope that she makes a speedy recovery. https://t.co/L53UqLxGOb
Very grateful to my constituency neighbour @drlukeevans for raising the case of Colin Pitchfork and important parole reform with the Justice Secretary this week. Some encouraging news on parole reform today - must ensure that the system works better for victims and the public. https://t.co/P0If3Whaij
