Oral Answers to Questions

"May I press the Minister on accessibility? One thing that could be done to improve station safety is the closure of dangerous level crossings, including the one at Pencoed in my constituency. This has been an issue for years. There is support from the Welsh Government and local authorities. Following …..."

"Wales contains 11% of the UK railway network, but since 2010 it has received only 2% of the overall funding. Last year it received £177 million, while north-west London alone received £669 million. That is not acceptable. When will the Minister start investing in the Welsh railway network and end …..."

Written Question
Roads: Horse Riding
Wednesday 13th March 2019

Asked by: Chris Elmore (Labour - Bridgend)

Question to the Department for Transport:

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, whether he has had recent discussions with the Welsh Government on the safety of horse riders on UK roads; and if he will make a statement.

Answered by Jesse Norman - Shadow Leader of the House of Commons

The Secretary of State has not had recent discussions with the Welsh Government on this matter.

The Government recognises that horse riders are vulnerable road users. As part of the current Cycling and Walking Investment Strategy (CWIS) Safety Review, The Highway Code will be reviewed to help keep cyclists, pedestrians and horse riders safe on the roads.

The full scope of review has yet to be determined but, in accordance with normal practice, it will be conducted in consultation with all relevant stakeholders, including the Welsh Government.
