Question
to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government:
To ask the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, how many new homes for social rent were started in (a) 2009-10 and (b) 2015-16.
Answered by Lord Barwell
33,490 new homes for social rent were started in 2009/10; and 6,550 in 2015/16.
We are building homes for affordable rent because it requires less subsidy. This means we can build more homes for affordable rent, than social rent, for every pound of Government investment

Question
to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government:
To ask the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, what assessment he has made of trends in the number of homes built for social rent since 2010.
Answered by Brandon Lewis
Since 2010 we have delivered 270,000 affordable homes, including nearly 200,000 homes for rent.
The majority of rented homes delivered through the Affordable Homes Programme are for Affordable Rent, delivering more homes for every pound of Government investment.
The Spending Review committed £1.7 billion to deliver 100,000 affordable rented homes.
