Question
to the Department of Health and Social Care:
To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what assessment he has made of the shortfall in the number of Clinical Technologists needed in UK hospitals and the lack of statutory regulation for the profession.
Answered by Helen Whately
- Shadow Secretary of State for Work and Pensions
No such assessment has been made. Information on the number of clinical technologists is not held centrally.
The Government has no plans to extend statutory regulation to clinical technologists at this time. The statutory regulation of healthcare professionals should only be used where the risks to public and patient protection cannot be addressed in other ways, such as through employer oversight or accredited voluntary registration.

Question
to the Department of Health and Social Care:
To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what enforcement powers he has to require hospital trusts to make disabled parking bays free.
Answered by Edward Argar
These new requirements are being mandated through the NHS Standard Contract, to make car parking more consistent across England. The 2020/21 contract asked the National Health Service in England to do all it can to implement them from April 2020, and requires it to do so from January 2021.

"I support the Government’s amendment, particularly the line about seeking cross-party consensus. Opposition day debates may not be the ideal time to seek consensus across the Chamber, but consensus will be vital in the long term.
Governments of all stripes have tiptoed around this problem for 20 years because no …..."Damian Green - View Speech
