Community Ownership Fund: Northern Ireland
Monday 26th January 2026

Asked by: Gregory Campbell (Democratic Unionist Party - East Londonderry)

Question to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government:

To ask the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, what steps she is taking to ensure that funding allocations from the Community Ownership Fund have benefited communities in areas across all of Northern Ireland.

Answered by Miatta Fahnbulleh - Parliamentary Under-Secretary (Housing, Communities and Local Government)

The Community Ownership Fund was launched as a competitive fund under the previous government. On 23 December 2024 this government announced the largest ever allocation of funding through the programme. This funded regeneration and renovation of a range of cultural, sports and community space projects across Northern Ireland in constituencies of all the major parties.

The UK Government is investing £45.5 million each year of the SR period to provide targeted long term funding to support vital initiatives such as economic inactivity and local business support right across NI as part of the new Local Growth Fund.

Written Question
Homelessness
Thursday 15th January 2026

Asked by: Gregory Campbell (Democratic Unionist Party - East Londonderry)

Question to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government:

To ask the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, if he will make an assessment of the potential implications for his policies of trends in the number of people whose ongoing living is in unconventional accommodation such as a vehicle or shed between 2020 and 2025.

Answered by Alison McGovern - Minister of State (Housing, Communities and Local Government)

Housing and homelessness is devolved. This government inherited a homelessness crisis in England. Our National Plan to End Homelessness sets out a credible plan to get back on track to ending homelessness in England.

Our strategy will address the root causes of homelessness by building more homes, reforming renters’ rights, and tackling poverty. We will support councils and public services to shift from crisis to prevention setting cross government targets, record levels of investment with £3.5bn for homelessness and rough sleeping services over the next 3 years, and new duties on services to work together to prevent homelessness. And we will tackle the worst forms of homelessness by ending the unlawful use of B&Bs for families and halving long term rough sleeping by the end of this Parliament.

Local authorities are responsible for delivering homelessness services in England. The government works closely with local authorities to share and develop good practice in response to changes in patterns of homelessness. This includes the development of new services to assess and support people in unconventional accommodation to resolve their homelessness.

Written Question
Fire Prevention
Thursday 11th September 2025

Asked by: Gregory Campbell (Democratic Unionist Party - East Londonderry)

Question to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government:

To ask the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, pursuant to the Answer of 19 June 2025 to Question 59984 on Fire Prevention, if she will make an assessment of the adequacy of the response to wildfires during summer 2025.

Answered by Samantha Dixon - Parliamentary Under-Secretary (Housing, Communities and Local Government)

Each fire and rescue authority is required to plan for the foreseeable risks in its local area (including wildfire), through the Community Risk Management Plan (CRMP) - having regard to the views of other key local responders.

As the lead government department for wildfire, the Ministry for Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) maintains regular engagement with other government departments including the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra) and Cabinet Office on this national risk. This is alongside the department’s work with national bodies including the National Fire Chiefs Council and England and Wales Wildfire Forum to monitor and review sector led improvements and mitigations.

Since 2024 the Government has funded a National Resilience Wildfire Advisor to assess what additional wildfire national capabilities might be needed to increase resilience to the wildfire risk and to ensure coordination of approaches across the sector.

To ask the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, what steps she is taking to help increase participation among the 18 – 25 age group in forthcoming elections.

The government is committed to encouraging participation in our democracy, as set out in our manifesto. We recognise the importance of engaging young people in the democratic process and are taking active steps to address this.

We are actively developing proposals to deliver this manifesto commitment, and are collaborating closely with the Electoral Commission, local authorities, think tanks, academics, and civil society organisations. Our work is focused on identifying the attitudinal barriers that prevent young people from participating in elections, and exploring effective interventions to overcome these challenges.
