Asked by: Helen Goodman (Labour - Bishop Auckland)
Question to the Leader of the House:
To ask the Leader of the House, what recent discussions she has had with the Foreign Secretary on the situation of Uyghur Muslims in China.
Answered by Andrea Leadsom
Following Business Questions on 13 December, I raised the matter directly with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
The Government has serious concerns about the human rights situation in Xinjiang due to the Chinese Government’s deepening crackdown; including credible reports of the use of political re-education camps and widespread surveillance and restrictions targeted at religious and ethnic minorities – particularly Uyghur Muslims.
